Todd Troost
Learning Experience Designer
I’ve been working in instructional design since 2012, building eLearning, virtual training, and other learning experiences that are meant to hold up in real-world use.

Much of my work focuses on turning technical or dry material into something people can actually engage with. I tend to take a creative approach and use tools in ways that aren’t always expected. I especially enjoy building real-world scenarios, along with software training and simulations, and I’ve also worked on onboarding programs designed to get people up to speed quickly.
What I Do:
I design learning experiences that connect people to what they need to know - clearly, creatively, and with purpose. Whether it’s policy jargon or dense systems content, I make it understandable, useful, and relevant to the people who need it.
How I Work:
I start with analysis, especially needs analysis - to be sure training is the right solution. I use action mapping and stakeholder input to connect business goals with performance. My process is agile and iterative. I prototype, test, and refine using tools like Storyline, Rise, and Twine to build realistic, practice-based learning.
Why It Matters:
Good training should actually help people do their jobs. I focus on what people need to be able to do in real situations, not just what they’re supposed to know. That usually leads to better performance, fewer mistakes, and a better use of time.
Staying Sharp:
I stay current by studying learning science, exploring new tools, and tackling real-world challenges. Whether it’s xAPI, AI, or scenario design, I test what works, drop what doesn’t, and keep improving. Curiosity drives my process, not just the results.
